Painting The Portrait From Life

The four day workshop will concentrate on traditional and contemporary approaches relating to painting the portrait from life. Each day will start with Jacob doing a lecture and demonstration pertaining to relevant topics and skills in the various stages of a portrait painting(one warm light demo and one cool light demo).
During the course the participants will paint two or more portrait paintings from observation giving them an opportunity to work through the principles covered in the workshop to give a greater understanding. Main topics covered during the workshop; -composition -accurate drawing (proportions) -value control (benefits of the 5 value system) -edge control -warm light portrait vs a cool light portrait -importance of proper temperature shifts -using value and color to show depth -color theory -simplifying shadow shapes. -the use of various tools -the use of line within a painting -wet into wet painting vs.wet on dry painting SCHEDULE: Wednesday from 11:00 to 14:00 to 16:00 to 19:00 h Thursday from 11:00 to 14:00 and 16:00 to 19:00 h Friday from 11:00 to 14:00 h to 16:00 to 19:00 h Saturday from 11:00 to 14:00 h to 16:00 to 19:00 h Sunday: Day trip to Cádiz (optional) DURATION: 24h COST: $600 or 550 euro CLASS SIZE: 7-14 people THE WORKSHOP FEE INCLUDES: -modeling fees -paid transportation to and from the island of Cádiz during a day trip on Sunday July 20th. -Odorless mineral spirits for washing brushes and thinning paint. -Translation for Spanish speakers. TRANSPORTATION- El Puerto de Santa Maria is a short distance from the Jerez de la Frontera Airport(about 27 Kilometers or 17 miles) and the trip can easily be made either by train(around 4 euros) or taxi (around 25-30 euros). Coming from Sevilla or Madrid there is a train that drops you off in the citycenter(NOTE: make sure to buy tickets in advance as it is tourist season):) HOUSING: There are numerous hotels and Bed and Breakfasts located in the center of El Puerto de Santa Maria. Also, if you prefer there are hotels located on the beach not too far from the center of the city.
