Painting the Figure in Motion (Online)
March 22, 29, and April 5 (12pm-3pm central standard time)Note: class may go longer than 3 hours
The 3 day workshop will concentrate on the important topics relating to painting the figure in motion in oils. Each day will start with Jacob doing a lecture/demonstration pertaining to relevant topics and skills in the various stages of a figure in motion painting. During the course the participants will have the option to paint a figure in motion painting from a photo reference giving them an opportunity to work through the principles covered in the workshop giving a greater understanding. Two class critiques will be available. One critique will be live during the class and the other will communicated through email or other online avenue.
Main topics covered during the workshop; -composition -accurate drawing (proportions) -value control (benefits of the 5 value system) -edge control -importance of proper temperature shifts -using value and color to show depth -color theory -simplifying shadow shapes. -the use of various tools and techniques to achieve expressive -Creating a sense of motion -The use of line within a painting -wet into wet painting vs.wet on dry painting Itinerary for online class
Day 1
-Lecture and demonstration pertaining to painting the figurative in motion from a photo reference. Some concepts that will be covered include placement of figure in the pictorial plane, breaking composition into simple forms, accurate proportions, premixing colors, painting through contour lines, wet into wet painting, and color choices. -Optional homework: Paint the figure in motion using concepts from the demonstration. Day 2 -Part two of demonstration/lecture of painting the figure in motion will cover, edge control, wet on dry painting, refining the form, various tool applications, and the use of line to define contours. -Group critique -Optional homework: continue painting the figure using the concepts from the demonstration. Day 3 -Finishing touches on the figure in motion painting. -Group critique -Question and answer session about various topics relating to painting. -Class length is 3 to 3.5 hours per season. -Each session will be recorded and available for 6 months to view at your leisure |
